Businesses, land owners and communities must manage rainfall that runs off roads, streets, parking lots and buildings. To manage storm water runoff many treatment devices called storm water control measures (we call them SCMs in our industry) have been built. These devices include wet retention ponds, bioretention areas, swales, storm water wet lands, permeable pavement, rainwater harvesting systems, proprietary devices and level spreaders. SCMs must have annual, and sometimes more frequent, inspection and maintenance to perform as intended. Maintenance includes hydrologic/water quality function, landscape functions, and consideration of impacts on human health and safety. Many communities across North Carolina are now requiring annual inspection and maintenance of SCMs. SCMs are not managed as standard landscape features as they are water quality treatment devices. In addition to SCM maintenance we also use our abilities to control erosion and the effects of erosion at construction sites and other existing sites. We also offer shoreline stabilization, excavation, grading, and stabilization of eroded soils.
